Chinese Herbal Medicine is different than Western Herbs. There is limited overlap and Traditional Chinese Herbs have an extensive history that permeates most of Asia, not just China. Also, TCM Herbs can be animal products or rocks/minerals. The individual herbs can be very powerful. Individual herbs are combined together in ancient herbal formulas that are modified to for a specific patient needs on a specific day. The amount of differential diagnosis for herbal medicine is much more complicated than acupuncture. Some acupuncturist do not use herbs as they cannot be billed to insurance, are difficult to store, and people are not as excited about herbs as they are about acupuncture. Herbal medicine is truly the heart of Chinese medicine and for those seeking faster results, better results, and longer lasting results combining herbs with acupuncture has proven to be very effective.
Herbal medicine is best when cooked in a crock pot all day, or more often a clay pot used specifically for making a decoction of herbs and water. However, many people prefer to take a pill or powder, which is also available. Depending on the condition a specific form may be recommended over the other and of course, tolerance for the client.
Chinese herbal medicine has a long history. The herbal formulas are created specifically for an individual at the stage of the illness they are in. Some formulas need to be taken long term, but some formulas only a short while. Herbal medicine can be very strong and needs to be taken at the recommended dosage. We are happy to use Evergreen Herbs for most all herbal supplements.
